This was my very first foray into the world of the large painting! Working on a sheet of paper which was over a metre tall had it’s challenges. I had to organise a new drawing board for my painting desk, which also meant I had to remove furniture out of the room to accommodate the larger drawing board… anyway, we managed to fit us all in and this is what I came up with. Inspired by delft tiles and the most amazing tulipiere by Adriaen Kocks, which to me where the tulips were meant to go looked like little fellows singing… so I left them empty and added a couple of wrens at the bottom because really, superb wrens have much bigger voices than a bird that size should have. This was meant to be part of a small exhibition of large works which due to unforeseen circumstances never eventuated.
