When I started this ‘Alice adventure’ I knew that the only bird who was right to be the Mad Hatter was a sulphur crested cockatoo. Their crazy, manic, naughty natures meant that they were a natural for the part, plus they have their own in-built hat (of sorts). In each painting I am also trying to match each element to each other, so what is the right teaset and cake for each bird. This one warranted a cake from my childhood trips to the local bakery, a butterfly cake, to link back to the raised wings in the cockie.
Was included in my Ten Impossible Things Before Tea exhibition.
