This is my largest watercolour to date. There is something quite exciting and daunting at the same time. What if I stuff it? Which is as always a very real possibility. Anyway, I took my time and I think it has come together nicely… if I say so myself.
As sugar junkies the red wattlebirds absolutely love waratahs which produce vast amounts of nectar purely to attract the birds. I wanted to show something slightly different by combining a still life with one of my bird portraits. This is the first in the series of Not So Still Life paintings in preparation for an exhibition next year.
