Well, it has been a whirlwind of a creative year! Since my second solo show at Artisan on Lewis in March of last year I have been busy painting almost full time for one show after another… with the odd side project and commission thrown in to keep me on my toes. My works have been shown in (and a pair purchased by) Bundaberg Regional Gallery, and one of my paintings even got to adorn the pages of the March edition of Country Style magazine! It has been exhilarating, terrifying and humbling in equal measure. An artist’s dream come true!
Curiouser and Curiouser is my fourth solo show, and the second to be held in the prestigious and beautiful Michael Reid gallery in Murrurundi, where my naughty birdies will once again take over their beautiful sandstone walls for the months of May and June 2017.
This latest show continues on with my “Alice in Wonderland” theme, but this time I have invited the local wild birds further into my imaginary home. Not only are they selecting cakes and serving tea, but they are staying for dinner, swimming in the wash bowl, pretending to be bouquets in vases and generally creating chaos with crockery. These birds are not just inspecting what is on offer, they are interacting and involving themselves with it, whilst staying true to their wild and uninhibited natures.
If you have never been to Michael Reid at Murrurundi I highly recommend it. Not only is Murrurundi a beautiful town north of Scone, but the gallery itself is a gorgeous sandstone building set in lovely lush gardens… And very soon, there shall be not one, but two gallery spaces to visit, as there is a new building currently being built on the same site. So there will be even more art on offer… and that is an offer which is hard to resist!
